-
- %JR%I have version 3.07R of PipeDream 3 dated 15 Jan 1990 for the Archimedes. My registration
- number is R6102 4672 8208 9926.
-
- %JR%I have a problem using the VLOOKUP function on my A3000 which has been upgraded to 2
- %JL%MB using the official Acorn upgrade kit. Briefly, my requirement is to use a field in date
- %JR%format to determine the charge rate applicable for that date in a table (which happens to be in
- %JL%a separate spreadsheet). My problem is that this only works if the exact date is found in the
- %JR%table. I require a method of returning the closest lower value if the date key is not found.
- %JL%This works if the date is a numeric field but not if the key is of date format or character. This
- %JR%would appear to be correct (see page 315 of the manual). I have found a workaround for this
- which involves creating a work field of type numeric using the formula:
- %C%(year(A6))*10000+(month(A6))*100+(day(A6))
- %JR%where slot A6 contains the field of type date which I want to lookup. I then use the work field
- %JL%as my lookup key. This requires me to hold the date in the table as a numeric field with the
- %JR%format YYMMDD. However it is rather cumbersome and makes recalculation rather slow
- %JL%since the spreadsheet is rather large, although much of this time is due to the use of dependent
- documents. I normally turn off automatic recalculation when using multiple spreadsheets.
-
- %JR%It occurs to me that my requirement is a very common one, I might wish to determine interest
- %JL%rates in force, VAT rates, interest rates etc. relevant to a particular date. Perhaps I have
- %JR%overlooked an easier way of doing this? I can certainly do this with the PC worksheet I use at
- %JL%the office. If the manual is correct, could I suggest that a method of returning the closest
- %JR%lower value of a date field (or perhaps any field type) might be included in some future
- version of Pipedream?
-
- %JR%The only other real problem I have is that when using multiple documents, I cannot bring a
- hidden one to the front by clicking on the Pipedream icon on the menu bar and selecting it.
-
- %JR%I note from my copy of Archive that you have a new version of Pipedream 3 available (V3.11)
- %JL%and that you are offering a free upgrade, I would like to avail myself of your offer in the hope
- that my second problem might then go away. I am therefore enclosing my master disk.
-
- %JR%Except for the two problems described, I am very pleased with Pipedream 3 and never hesitate
- to recommend it to other Archimedes owners.
